Customers may need a headboard if the studs don't align with the pre-drilled holes in the rail, or if there is a doorway trim and the "door depth" plus "trim depth" is greater than 2 inches. A minimum of 8 inches from the top of the door to the ceiling (or crown molding) is required for the kit to fit correctly.

The hardware kits accommodate a wide range of door thicknesses, supporting 1 3/8" to 1 3/4" doors. For thicker doors, the bolts can be countersunk into the back of the door, or longer bolts can be purchased from a local hardware store. The spacing needed between the door and wall (or baseboard/doorway trim) can be adjusted by bolting a header board to the studs and then attaching the rail to this header board.
